We launch our 2014 season with a barnstorming comedy night hosted by Hebburn star Alfie Joey. Based at the newly-refurbished Witham Hall in Barnard Castle, Funny Way To Be’s new programme kicks off with four of the UK’s top stand-ups.
Widely regarded as one of the UK’s best comperes, Alfie will be joined by stand-ups Andrew O’Neill, Tommy Rowson and Paul F Taylor, all of whom will be making rare trips to the North East.
Our headliner, TV regular Andrew O'Neill, isn't your usual comedian.
Highly inventive and extremely funny, Andrew O'Neill has risen like warm air in a cold room ever since his debut in 2002. He’s done primetime comedy with Alan Partridge creator Steve Coogan, dabbled in reality TV, and had dozens of sketches broadcast on Radio 1. We’re delighted to bring him to Teesdale.
Completing the line-up on February 8th will be 2011 So You Think You’re Funny? winner Tommy Rowson and Paul F Taylor, who is one of the UK’s most exciting and distinctive stand-ups.
This is a show that we've spent a lot of time putting together. On a mixed bill night like this we try to secure a range of comics to ensure there is a variety of styles and something for all tastes. Andrew O'Neill is someone we've always wanted to play at our comedy club. When I saw Paul F Taylor's wonderful show at last year's Leicester Comedy Festival I was also determined to bring him to Barnard Castle. Our support for the night, Tommy Rowson, tried out his Edinburgh show with us last July. He was a smash hit at the festival and has a great future ahead of him. And Alfie Joey is a real joy to see - an ideal person to host a wonderful line up such as this.
Funny Way To Be’s 2014 season includes some of stand-up’s biggest stars, with award-winners, TV stars and history makers amongst those coming to Barnard Castle in the next twelve months.
