The Funny Way To Be Comedy Club at The Witham in Barnard Castle has been nominated as Venue of the Year in a poll to celebrate the best cultural venues in the North East.
Entertainment web site Northern Lights has nominated The Funny Way To Be Comedy Club at The Witham as one of it’s four venues of the year in a poll currently being carried out on it’s web site. The Teesdale venue is pitched against the Sunderland Empire and the Tyneside Cinema in Newcastle for the top spot.
In announcing the awards Josh Hollis of Northern Lights said, “The North East is fit to burst with fantastic cultural goings-on, talent and events, and is also chock full of fantastic venues ran by amazing people that make up a crucial part of the region’s cultural fabric. With this award we want to celebrate some of our best cultural venues, who stand out from the crowd by seeking to bring the world’s best talent to our region while remaining fiercely proud of our own communities. When you think of Barnard Castle, your mind doesn’t immediately jump to stand-up comedy. But a succession of stellar bookings at The Witham in the last twelve months or so has started to change all that.”
